All new workshop lists will be available as follows:

  • In the shop about a month before the new session of classes start
  • On the web site. www.stampaholics.co.uk
  • Or if you would like to be posted a copy please hand in or send in (about a month before the end of the current list) a stamped (large 2nd or 1st class stamp) addressed A5 or A4 envelope. Our address is 8 Princes Street, Perth, PH2 8NG.

I really don’t know where the last few months have gone. One of my New Year’s resolutions this year was to be more organized!! Needless to say it hasn’t happened and I am in the usual panic to get the new workshop list out. As you will probably notice we have fewer tutors this session. As many of you already know, Jean has had to give up her job and being a workshop tutor due to ill health. Many of you have already sent cards and messages to Jean and I know she really appreciates all your support.

As a result of Jean leaving I have been a bit short staffed. Until I get someone regularly in the shop on a Thursday, it is more practical for me to have the workshop I normally do on a Thursday morning on Friday mornings instead. I hope this won’t cause too much disruption or upset. If it does I will have to think again. However in the short term it is a solution. Liz is helping me out when and where she can but can’t always be here on Thursday’s. We will see how it goes!!

This is meant to be the summer session so I thought this should reflect in the projects. So you will see lots of summer flowers and bright colours. Hero Arts stamps have made a huge comeback this year (for me!!). The silhouette style flowers are just stunning and have so many possibilities. There are so many great ways to use them that I decided to dedicate a demo day to them. I have stuck to making cards this session and Liz will be doing a few of the more home décor and paper engineering type projects that she is known for.

Alan has also agreed to do a couple of jewellery workshops and this time he has samples in the shop if anyone would like to see them.

Demonstration Days

We are planning two demonstration days this session. One of our main suppliers that usually provide Tracy Dowie as a demonstrator is no longer doing so. Like many in the industry they have to cut back due to the current financial climate. Hence I will be doing the demo’s myself on the following dates:

  • Saturday 29th May – Hero Arts Silhouette Flowers
  • Saturday 31st July – Distressed and Grungy – using Ranger Products

I will produce fliers with more details nearer the time.

Workshops

Here is a quick run down of what all the different tutors are making this session.

Alan Connolly

  • Jewellery Making Basics – whether you have never made bead jewellery before or just need to brush up on your techniques then this would be a good place to start. You will learn all the techniques to make a necklace, bracelet and three pairs of earrings.
  • Silver, Crystal and Pearl Necklace – This beautiful necklace and matching earrings is made using all silver findings, Swarovski crystals and pearls. Included in the price is Alan tumbling it to polish it after completion. A lovely set for your self or as a gift for a loved one. I know I will be putting my name down for this one.

Liz Young

  • Mini Reference Library – These are like miniature magazine holders. They would be great for holding reference cards of all your ink pads, polychromos pencils etc. A great idea for getting your crafting essentials referenced to help when buying additional colours etc or to stop you buying duplicates
  • Necklace Hanger – If you are like me I have a lot of costume jewellery lying around on my dressing table and I seem to spend a lot of time un-tangling things. This will keep them all organized and a nice way to display them.
  • Decorative Plant Pot Covers – These lovely little holders turn a pot of herbs or pot plant into great gift. I often buy pots of parsley and coriander for my kitchen window sill. These holders would make them look as if they belong!
  • Ribbon Holder Dispenser – Have your favourite ribbons always within easy reach in this very practical box. It comes flat, is easily assembled and can be decorated in your favourite colours to stand out in your craft room. A great gift idea for a crafting friend.
  • Cards Using Flock – I have never quite got my head around flock!! But you would be amazed at what you can do with it. I can actually say it is growing on me. Liz plans to make 3 cards using flock in different ways.

Siobhan Fyffe

  • Tilda Easel Card – Jean was unable to finish off her last couple of workshops. One of the cards she was planning to make was an easel card. Several customers asked if we would do one this session. So I decided to use this easy and popular card format for a Tilda card. And I have to say I was quite pleased with it as I usually leave the Magnolia type cards to Irene.
  • Rubber Stamping Basics – this is an introduction to using rubber stamps in your card making. We will cover stamping an image, adding colour and matting and layering. We will also be using a technique called “brushless watercolour”. All in all a great class to get you started, after which you can join any intermediate classes.
  • Embossed Layered Resist – For this workshop I will be using two of the new Hero Arts negative silhouette stamps. Normally when you stamp onto white card with these stamps, the background will be coloured but the image will be white. This is great for many techniques. But the resist technique shows how to colour in the image and not the background. If you are confused, the samples are on the workshop board.
  • Down in the Meadow – Hero Arts have a gorgeous stamp of wild grasses (looks a bit like wheat). Imagine an evening walk in the fields with a red setting sun, the birds are singing. That’s the image I was trying to portray in one of the samples. The other is more a vintage look with a lovely flower made using Spellbinder dies.
  • Painting with Powders – Again using some of the Hero Arts silhouette flower stamps but using coloured embossing powders to colour them in. This gives almost a ceramic tile effect. Stampendous have just increased their range of coloured embossing powders which gives us several shades of the same colour. Ideal for this technique.
  • Birds of a Feather – using two new Crafty Individuals stamps. They have a feeling of William Morris tiles in that they are a mosaic of bird’s heads and stone masons decorative elements. I am probably not making much sense. I am slightly delirious while writing this (due to a bad cold). I love them and think they would be great for more masculine cards.
  • Down by the Sea – this is a new set by Inkadinkadoo which I think will appeal to most people. It reminds me of days at the beach as a child. Three cards and a lovely set of stamps – what more could you want.
  • Stamp images, beach scene

  • Big Flowers – As a big Tim Holtz and Wendy Vecchi fan I thought I would have a go at some grunge paper flowers. You can use them on cards or an unusual and unique accessory to wear or on a bag etc.
  • Wisteria Stencil Special – Several customers have asked for some brass stencil classes. This is the first and the one to do if you have not done much stencilling before. In the days before Cuttlebug you could make beautiful cards using brass stencils. The wisteria stencil is included in the price of the class. We will cover dry embossing, colouring with pigment inks, matt embossing paste and pearly powders for two different looks.
  • Childhood Memories – Sounds nostalgic and romantic. I am not sure what I am doing yet but it will involve yet another Hero Art stamp called “In the Garden” It’s a silhouette stamp of two children picking grapes.
  • Large Background Stamps - I think sometimes people can’t see the possibilities of some of the large background stamps. Hopefully this will change your mind. The two I have in mind are again two large Hero Art stamps – “Dandelion Frame” and “Flowers and Leaves”.
  • Glasgow Rose Stencil Special – This is the second of the stencil classes where I will explore a couple of other techniques like foiling, crackle paste and glittering. Again this class includes the stencils. As they are both new designs you are unlikely to already have them.

So that’s the line up for the next session. Samples will be in the shop and on the website as soon as we get them made. I hope there is something there to tempt you.

As most of you now understand, I can’t buy in lots of extra stock for every workshop as we do so many now. Overheads keep going up and everyone is watching their pennies in the current climate. I try to stick to companies I order regularly from so we can stock fairly quickly if you want anything I don’t have enough of. If, after seeing the samples, there are any stamps etc that you would like why not pre-order. That way you will get the stamps in time for your workshop. And it helps us to keep going.

Booking

There are 7 places available on each workshop. To book a place on any of the workshops: please Phone 01738 638833 or call into the shop at 8 Princes Street, Perth. We are unable to accept bookings by E-mail, post or answer machine. To try and make it as fair as possible we take one booking from the desk and one from the phone until things quieten down (about 11am usually).

Bookings will be taken from 8.30am onwards on Saturday 8th May 2010.

I will be at the shop by 7.45am. We hand out numbered tickets to guarantee your place in the queue (a bit like the deli counter at Tesco). You are then free to go for a coffee or help yourself to tea and coffee here. There are some samples up on the board already.

We do have a reserve list. If you have booked a place and are then unable to attend, please phone to cancel as soon as possible so that your place can be offered to someone else.

Missed classes must be paid for unless we fill the place, then your workshop fee will be fully refunded.

Our workshops are open to anyone who supports the shop, but not to people who use us regularly for ideas but buy virtually nothing from us. Prices may be a bit cheaper on-line because their overheads are much lower. But we offer things money can’t buy – friendly and knowledgeable staff, help and advice, a generous loyalty scheme and of course our wide range of workshops.
